About the season’s theme:
This season, we’re leaning into the spirit of going back to school…not with grades or tests, but with curiosity, structure, and recommitment.
As summer slows, Fall invites us to return to routine, rebuild creative habits, and reconnect with our goals. Through this theme, we’ll explore cycles of learning and unlearning, the power of accountability, and the joy of settling into a rhythm. Whether you’re revisiting a medium or starting fresh, this cohort is a chance to root your practice in intention, and begin again.
What’s included in a cohort
A shared but flexible schedule
Each cohort runs for about two months and brings together a group of 15–25 like-minded people. It’s flexible—you choose workshops that fit your schedule, no need to commit to the same day each week.
We also anchor the experience with Orientation, a few member-only gatherings, and a final Showcase, so you still feel like you're on a shared journey.
Intentional gatherings and connection
Each cohort season includes an orientation, showcase night, and two group project events! Have fun building collaboratively, whether a whole ceramic world, or a giant puzzle we’ll create an assemble together.
Each cohort gets a private discord channel. Connect with your group, share inspiration, ideas, and plan get-togethers.
Skill-building workshops
Select 8 workshops over the course of the cohort program, to fit your schedule and interests, including clay, drawing, painting, writing, textiles, and more! Learn new skills and mediums from our professional artist instructors. Events are thoughtfully distributed across weeknights and weekends.
Drawing Room as your campus
[NEW PERKS] Cohort enrollment includes a Creative Flow Membership, giving you access to the Art Library and Open Hours. Just show your digital member card to drop by anytime the space is open—whether to keep practicing, co-work, or connect with friends.
Workshop supplies
All materials and supplies needed for your workshops are provided on-site. Take home the pieces you create. You’ll also get to paint your very own ceramic nametag during Orientation!
Your Cohort Welcome Pack
Each cohort member gets Drawing Room merch! Including a tote and a sketchbook to fill throughout the program.
Our Catalog
Pick 8 workshops from any of the below to attend during your cohort program. Many workshops and events may feature different projects, depending on the cohort theme, and are likely available on more than one date. We are always developing new workshops in different mediums…like recently added workshops for bookbinding, felting, and weaving.
All workshops and events take place Sat/Sun morning or Mon/Tues/Wed evening, and we do our best to distribute them so that each event type happens on a weeknight/weekend at least once!
Sample Workshops
Orientation Night
in Midtown
[NEW ADDITIONS] Meet and greet our instructors and the rest of your cohort, and choose your workshops, over snacks and tea. Paint your own ceramic nametags, then write and seal your intentions for the season.
If you are not able to join us for orientation, no problem! You can simply submit your enrollments virtually.
Showcase Night
in Williamsburg
[NEW ADDITIONS] Bring and show off any works you made during the cohort program over pizza, cake, and snacks. Mingle with your cohort and instructors. Plus-ones always welcome to join in on the celebration!
Sign each other’s sketchbooks (like yearbooks)!!
ALSO INCLUDED FOR ALL JOURNEY MEMBERS:
Journey Group Projects!
Group projects are collaborative gatherings where all Journey members of the season are invited to participate in building something together! Two group projects are held throughout each season, usually a collaborative ceramics group project (Williamsburg) and board game group project (Midtown).

While they weren’t necessarily designed for this, plenty of members have done so before! Our team can help you make sure your sessions don’t overlap :-) Just shoot us an email at info@nycdrawingroom.com and we’ll help you get set up!
-
Yes, of course!
If you are already a member with a payment method on file, please use the same exact email we have on file for your membership.
Since the Creative Flow Membership is included for all Journey participants, you’ll be prorated for any days not covered by the journey, and these days will be added back at the end of the journey. This means you will not be charged again until you’ve used all the days you’ve paid for last, before signing up for a journey. (Don’t worry, we do the math for you).

Our Back to School series is designed to be flexible so you can book classes according to your schedule. We have a series of classes with dates and times listed, and you will choose which you'd like to attend.
We know emergencies happen, so we accommodate one class reschedule from your original schedule booking made during orientation. Reschedule requests must be made no fewer than 24 hours prior to the event start time. Sorry, no exceptions!
-
That's ok! For Orientation Night, we'll have you select your classes virtually and send us your selections.
Orientation Night is also a chance for you to meet the rest of your cohort, but we'll have plenty of other opportunities to mingle and meet your classmates :-)

You can expect to see the familiar faces of your cohort classmates in each of these classes, and you'll get first dibs and get to sign up together before its opened up to public registration.
As a part of this series, we are also hosting several activities throughout the semester that are exclusive to the cohort members, including the Orientation Night, Showcase Night, BYO Dinner Party, coffee meets, private discord channel, etc.
We want this to feel like you are growing through a creative learning journey, together!

All enrollments are final. However, if you find you are unable to join us for the progra for whatever reason after booking, you can let us know at least 7 days before Orientation Night to get credits. This will allow you to use the dollar value as credit towards other events or a membership. They can also be (partially) transferred to a friend.
-
Absolutely!
There’s so much variation and novelty from cohort to cohort. This is by design – our various themes and related projects offer so many new, fun, and intentional ways to explore. We’re always developing new projects.
Plus, each cohort is a new opportunity to make new friends and share an experience with a tight knit group of people!
If after a cohort experience (or two) you find you’re ready to dive deep into a single medium, we’ve got you covered, too. We’re currently building intensives for many of our existing workshops. Stay tuned!
About the themes…
Our cohort program is designed for a breadth-focused exploration of the many ways of creating. It’s a great way to push yourself out of your comfort zone to try new things, but we also wanted there to be a common thread between the workshops to help ground us as we explore. How might your interpretations of various themes differ in clay versus paint versus writing?
“Transformation,” our overarching theme for 2025, is something we’ve been talking a lot about at Drawing Room. When do you know when its the right time to make a leap? When something is no longer suiting you? When to recognize you have grown and evolved? How do you nurture growth? So much about life is about transformations, let’s celebrate and experiencing them with our community. We can’t wait to explore this theme with you throughout 2025!

Our Summer 2025 Cohort’s theme is “Myth & Magic!” This season, we step into a realm where creativity is sparked by the expansive and mysterious world of legends, folklore, and hidden wonders. Through hands-on exploration—whether shaping mystical clay vessels, weaving secret notes, or painting magical items—we immerse ourselves in storytelling, symbolism, and the unseen forces that fuel our imagination. Myth connects us to timeless narratives, while magic exists both in the world around us and in the creative process itself—the alchemy of turning ideas into reality. In a shared space of curiosity and experimentation, we bring these themes to life, embracing the wonder, mystery, and meaning that our creations can conjure.
An example group project involves making a communal potion shop! Check out other theme-specific workshops in our catalog, by clicking through to the enrollment page.

Our Summer 2025 Cohort’s theme is “Gardens & Growth!” This season, we explore the natural rhythms of creativity through the lens of cultivation, transformation, and renewal. Through hands-on exploration—whether sculpting botanical-inspired forms, weaving organic textures, or crafting stories of flourishing and change—we immerse ourselves in the cycles of growth that shape both nature and artistic practice. Gardens remind us of patience and care, while growth speaks to the creative journey itself—the process of nurturing ideas and watching them take root. In a shared space of curiosity and experimentation, we bring these themes to life, embracing the beauty, resilience, and possibility that our creations can cultivate.
An example group project involves making a communal ceramic farm! Check out other theme-specific workshops in our catalog, by clicking through to the enrollment page.
