Why Carve & Print at Drawing Room?

    Carving and printing your own stamps is the most delightful and tactile experience, with a dose of instant gratification!

    Keep your stamps to print over and over again on any surfaces you want. During each workshop, we’ll also provide fabric-safe ink and textile items you can design, print, and keep, like totes, tea towels, aprons, and more. Create truly one-of-a-kind textile objects!

  • Professional instruction

    Professional, beginner-friendly instruction provided by our wonderful instructor Meiying Thai.

    You’ll get an accessible introduction to block printing, a historical type of surface design that has roots in the textile traditions of China, India, Japan, and Egypt.

  • Emphasis on connection

    Carve & Print is more than just a block printing workshop. At Drawing Room we’re all about connection through creativity. These are great to come to solo or with friends; we all gather around shared tables to chat and have a great time.

What to expect

  • We’ll learn how to:

    • Design our own stamps and understand how negative and positive space translate into our stamp designs

    • Transfer our designs to the carving blocks

    • Safely carve our stamps using carving tools

    • Evenly ink our stamps with brayers and fabric-safe ink

    • Apply stamps and design prints on our textile items like canvas totes, tea towels, and postcards. Exact items depend on the theme of the event, Please see specific event descriptions.

    • Experiment and combine our stamps with natural materials as stamps like veggies, fruits, shells, and more.

    • Drawing tools to create your designs

    • Tracing paper

    • Fabric-safe ink

    • One large stamp carving block that can become one large stamp OR many smaller stamps

    • Carving tools

    • Brayers

    • Textile surfaces to keep (exact items like totes, towels, and aprons depend on the theme of the event. Please see upcoming workshop descriptions for details)

    • We’ll have some pre-made stamps for you to use in your pieces too!

    • Natural print elements - sea shells, cut fruits/vegetables you can stamp with

  • Enjoy our loose-leaf tea station! Additional beverages and snacks are available for purchase.
