Ayaka Takao
Ayaka Takao (she/they) (b. 1996, Kitakyushu, Japan) is an artist employing ceramics, painting, and written word based in Brooklyn, NY, holding a BFA in Fiber from The Maryland Institute College of Art (Baltimore, MD). Raised in Honolulu, Hawai’i, Takao aims to carry an island mentality regardless of the weather outside. Largely interested in ideas of self-actualization and eudaimonia, their practice serves as a counter-offer to the contemporary state of isolation and self-serving hedonism.
Takao is a co-organizer of Multi Projects, a DIY cross-disciplinary, multi-city curatorial project providing educational programming in printmaking and independent publishing in Honolulu, Hawai’i. Multi aims to bridge the gap between 1) the artist and the public, and 2) artists to each other. Through their personal practice and Multi Projects, Takao rigorously engages with love and play.
She currently teaches Claydate workshops at Drawing Room. You can find her work here, and her instagram here. Find her hanging out at Drawing Room Open Hours!

“I approach my practice of making and teaching with sincerity, always aiming to lead with grace. Through a holistic approach, we will explore how to lead a creative life with curiosity! Though a hierarchy is inevitable, I aim to create a classroom environment that invites us all to be teacher and student all at once.”
