Ray Hwang

Ray Hwang (b.1992) (he/him) is an artist from LA, living and working out of Ridgewood, NY. His work consists primarily of acrylic painting and drawing, in which he abstracts and layers imagery from his personal history to explore themes of family, home, and inter-cultural contradiction.

You can find his work here, and his instagram here.

You can find Ray teaching an upcoming Conversations in Paint, Drawing as Seeing, Bookbinding… or hanging out at Drawing Room Open Hours!

My teaching philosophy centers on experimentation and reframing failure. I believe every attempt—successful or not—is a chance to learn, and that growth is worth celebrating. The most important qualities for learning aren’t perfection, but curiosity, empathy, and the willingness to challenge yourself.
