Host (Open Hours + Events)
at Drawing Room
Location: Drawing Room Midtown and Williamsburg, NYC (In-Person). This role is fully on-site.
Position Type: Part-Time. Minimum 10-15 hours a week. Primarily weekends and weeknights.
You will own regular weekly, weekend Open Hour shifts, one at each location. In order of most common shift times: weeknights starting 5/6pm, weekends, then weekday daytime. Across two locations: Midtown and Williamsburg. Over time your role is likely to shift more towards one-off events as the volume increases there.
Position Level: Experienced. This role requires prior experience in similar fields.
About Drawing Room: We believe that creativity is a way of being - deeply human and worth nurturing. Our mission is to encourage people to live a more creative life. We do this through a creative third space that offers memberships, creative journeys, community gatherings, and workshops spanning topics like ceramics, printmaking, writing, textiles, and more!
About the role:
This role combines two key responsibilities; hosting Open Hours and hosting events; both centered around building a welcoming, creative community. Open Hours give people a space to return to their creative practice, co-work, or simply hang out in a relaxed environment. Events include private events such as corporate team building workshops, birthday parties, as well as Drawing Room Gatherings, which are casual meetups for people to foster connections with others over a shared activity. As a Host, you’ll own at least one regular Open Hour shift each week and host several events each month. In both, your focus is to create exceptional experiences for members and guests — helping everyone feel seen, inspired, and at home in the Drawing Room.
Your core responsibilities are multi-faceted and include:
Prepare and maintain the space: Set up the space before your shift (including setting up tea and coffee), keep it organized during Open Hours, and refresh it at the end of the night (including vacuuming, sweeping, mopping) to ensure it’s always welcoming and clean.
Host excellent experiences: Welcome members and guests, including checking them in, giving them a tour, and making sure everyone feels comfortable, inspired, and connected. You will need to give newcomers an introduction into Drawing Room, including our mission, policies and offerings.
Care for the Art Library: Be an expert on our Art Library so you can guide guests through their creative journey, restock supplies, and maintain clean, organized materials.
Provide guest and member support: Answer questions, assist with check-ins and purchases, manage bookings in a seamless and friendly manner.
Provide logistics and operations support: Manage deliveries, maintain inventory, and support daily administrative tasks to keep the space running smoothly.
Sales/Customer service: Be knowledgeable about our offerings, including our Journey programs and membership options, so you can confidently guide members and guests, helping them find the best fit for their creative journey at Drawing Room.
Engage and build community: Facilitate gatherings where guests feel included and connected, encourage participation, and ensure everyone has a memorable experience.
