Duos: Morning Brew

How you wake up is how you embody each day…

Build a beautiful companion for your morning ritual …

Whether it’s coffee or tea, our morning brews are not just a delivery system for caffeine. They’re a way to start the day with intention.

The vessels we choose are as much a part of our morning rituals as what we pour in them. In this workshop, you’ll create a pour-over + mug or tea strainer + mug that speaks to you. Something you’ll reach for again and again, elevating your brew, your mood, and your entire morning.

Duos is the first in a new series of Drawing Room intensives.

Over two days, students will design and build a two-piece coffee pourover or tea strainer.

Led by the inimitable Ivy Weinglass, Day 1 focuses on construction and assembly; Day 2 is dedicated to surface decoration and finishing details, so you’ll leave with a functional piece that’s uniquely your own.

Sessions in this Intensive will cover…

Foundations of Clay

We’ll start with the foundations: safety, clay, and the anatomy of a mug and strainer set. We’ll start to think about your morning rituals and the kind of morning brew set that you want to create.

Designing & building

Whether you’re a beginner or you’re well on your way into the world of ceramics, we’ll explore and learn new slab-building techniques that will help us build 2-piece sets that are both functional and imaginative.

Surface Design

Clay can be shaped in so many ways during the greenware stage, especially when left to harden up overnight. On Day 2, we’ll return to “leather-hard” pieces in progress, and learn surface design techniques including applique, carving, and sgraffito. Then, they’re off to be fired and glazed!

Your Instructor

Ivy has been making ceramics for over a decade!

With guidance and care, she will help you create the morning brew sets of your dreams from start to finish.

Included in this Intensive:

All tools (basic and advanced) provided

We provide everything you need for each session.

  • Get access to and learn to use more advanced tools, like a slab roller, stencils, and more to create next-level projects

  • Complimentary loose-leaf tea is also included in every session.

Personal materials to use at your own pace

At the first session, you’ll receive:

  • A 6 lb. bag of white stoneware to use at your own pace

  • You’ll learn about and learn to control the entire lifecycle of your ceramic pieces, from start to finish (something you don’t get with one-off claydates).

Exclusive storage options

Having storage access is absolutely essential for bigger, more complicated, or intricate projects! Continue to work on pieces over the course of multiple sessions and during any Open Hours. You’ll have access to dedicated shelf space for intensive students to store your pieces between sessions, and learn how to manage moisture levels so they are workable long term.

Our Creative Flow Membership is included for the duration of the Intensive. Freely pop by with your digital membership card and enjoy the space (and Clay Library) during any Open Hours to continue working on your projects, meet up with your group, cowork, and more.
