Open Hours Host
(Seasonal, Summer 2026)

at Drawing Room

Location: Drawing Room Midtown and Williamsburg (In-Person). This role is fully on-site.

Position Type: Part-Time. Minimum 10-15 hours a week between Thursday to Sunday, including evenings, across two locations: Midtown and Williamsburg. Note, this is a summer seasonal role, from June to September 2026, with opportunity to stay on the team beyond September.

Position Level: Experienced. This role requires prior experience in similar fields.

About Drawing Room: Drawing Room is a practice space. We believe creative practice is a way of being more yourself, and that everyone has the capacity to make. Our mission is to help people develop a sustained relationship with their own creative and inner lives, in community, without evaluation. We do this through memberships, journeys, workshops, and open hours, across disciplines like ceramics, printmaking, drawing, painting, writing, and textiles.

About the role:

This role focuses on hosting Open Hours and is centered on maintaining a physical space that works to build a welcoming, creative community. Open Hours give people a space to return to their creative practice, co-work, or simply hang out in a relaxed environment. We welcome returning members, individual guests, or group events at Open Hours.

As a Host, you’ll own at least one regular Open Hour shift each week, at each location. Your focus is to create exceptional experiences for members and guests — helping everyone feel seen, inspired, and at home in the Drawing Room. Hosts may have additional responsibilities, such as plant care, inventory management or admin support, depending on the host’s unique skills and interests, and the needs of Drawing Room.

Your core responsibilities are multi-faceted and include:

  • Prepare and maintain the space: Set up the space before your shift (including setting up tea and coffee), keep it organized during Open Hours, and refresh it at the end of the night (including vacuuming, sweeping, mopping) to ensure it’s always welcoming, clean, and comfortable for guests.

  • Host excellent experiences: Welcome members and guests, including checking them in, giving them a tour of the space, and making sure everyone feels comfortable, inspired, and connected. You will give newcomers a warm introduction into Drawing Room, and be knowledgeable on what we’re all about including our mission, policies and offerings.

  • Care for the Art Library: Be an expert on our Art Library so you can guide guests through their creative journey. You’ll also restock supplies, and maintain clean, organized materials.

  • Provide guest and member support: Answer questions online and in person, assist with check-ins and purchases, and manage reservations in a seamless and friendly manner.

  • Provide logistics and operations support: Manage deliveries, maintain inventory, and support daily administrative tasks to keep the space running smoothly.

  • Sales/Customer service: Be knowledgeable about our offerings, including our Journey programs and membership options, so you can confidently guide members and guests, helping them find the best fit for their creative journey at Drawing Room.

  • Engage and build community: Facilitate gatherings where guests feel included and connected, encourage participation, and ensure everyone has a memorable experience.

  • Additional responsibilities (“role overlays”), such as plant care, inventory management, or administrative support, may be available based on each host’s skills and interests, as well as the needs of Drawing Room. These are assigned in discussion with a manager.

You’ll be a good fit for this role if:

  • You are passionate about hosting and caring for a space, especially within a creative environment.

  • You have a strong attention to detail — you notice the small things: people’s needs, how they interact with the space, and how the space looks and feels.

  • You enjoy connecting with people, building relationships, and community building. Maybe you love bringing people together for social or creative gatherings!

  • You are kind, charismatic, and inclusive.

  • You like wearing many different hats at once, and have a proven track record of taking initiative and being self-sufficient in your role.

  • You are able to learn quickly, adapt when things don’t go right, and can problem-solve and think on your feet.

  • You have excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • You want to make a big impact on the community and to a small, growing team

Bonus points if you…

  • Feel comfortable speaking in front of groups and leading basic creative demos or introductions.

  • Have lots of fun and fresh ideas for community or creative events - and you know how to bring them to life!

  • Enjoy improving processes and systems to make things run more smoothly.

Qualifications:

  • You have availability during some or all of these time blocks:

    • Weekends in general - mornings, day and evenings (candidates with availability during weekends are being prioritized at this time)

    • Evenings/weeknights on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays (until 10pm)

    • You are committing to a minimum of 10-15 hours per week, with flexibility for more hours.

  • You have experience with customer-facing service jobs, especially within the hospitality industry (for example, in restaurants, hotels, etc.)

  • You have experience working in teams and in environments with uncertainty.

Compensation & role details:

  • $22/hr for Open Hours hosting shifts, with a training rate of $18/hr.

  • Start date: training to commence late May/ early June, with regular shifts starting from late June until end September.

Deadline to apply: Fri, May 8, 11:59pm
