Objects of Light

Enroll

Even the smallest glow can change a room.

Shape a space that reflects your light…

To us, light is pure magic. Whenever possible, it should glow warmly from pieces made with intention and heart, not from fluorescents overhead. Light shapes our mood, defines ambiance, and sets the tone for how we feel in a space.

If you look closely, many lamps we enjoy are made from clay. This is your invitation to create sculptural, functional lamps and luminaries that tell stories, hold memories, and reflect their makers. Each piece will live in your home as a gentle reminder of the intentional life you’re building, day by day.

An 8-week ceramics journey shared with a group, with thoughtful conversation, a group project, and a final showcase.

Together, we’ll explore how to create a table lamp, a wall sconce, and a collection of luminaries designed to hold candles or other sources of glow.

What we’ll explore

Foundations of Light

We’ll start with the foundations: safety, clay, and the anatomy of a lamp. We’ll start to think about your space and the kind of lamps and luminaries you want to create for it.

Whether you’re a beginner or you’re well on your way into the world of ceramics, we’ll explore techniques that will help us build bigger and more stable so you can achieve the lighting collection of your dreams.

Glazing

Glaze is a science as much as it is an art. We’ll learn how to apply glaze so we can give our pieces the final shiny touch. Then, they’re off to their final firing!

Putting it all together

We’ll learn how to wire our own lamps from parts! You’ll be able to take this knowledge forward in any future lamp-making projects you want. Don’t worry, it’s not as scary as it sounds, and we’ll be there to help!

Designing & building

“Showcase Night”

We’ll unveil everyone’s finished pieces, reflect on the journey, and celebrate with bites and bevs served from handmade vessels.

Journey Group Projects!

Collaborate with other Journey members to build together! Two group projects take place each season, usually a ceramics and a board game project, one in each of our locations.

Your Instructor

Ivy has been making ceramics for over a decade - with lamps being a personal favorite piece to make. (Not many get sold… because she keeps them all!)

After spending far too much time and money at her local lamp parts store getting her pieces made into lamps, she decided to jump in and learn how to wire her own! With guidance and care, she will help you create the lamps of your dreams from start to finish.
