Everyday Rituals
The everyday holds more than we think. For the moments we usually rush through.
To us, the ordinary is where life actually happens. The dishes, the counters, the pause mid recipe when you set the spoon down. These quiet routines shape your days, yet they’re often the hardest to approach with care.
This intensive invites you to slow down and notice the objects that carry you through daily life. As we learn and make, we’ll reflect on these small moments and imagine how the things we use every day might better support us. Together, we’ll create ceramic pieces for routines and self care, turning the everyday into ritual and finding joy in what’s already here.
An 8-week, beginner-friendly ceramics journey about making the overlooked moments of daily life more intentional.
Together, we’ll design, learn, and build objects for routines and small acts of care, turning necessity into ritual through shared making, conversation, and reflection.

Sessions in this Intensive
Each session follows a loose theme, beginning with a short reflection, journaling, and group sharing to ground the work. We’ll demo techniques related to the session, which you’re welcome to use or adapt freely. One on one guidance is always available to support your own sacred objects.
Session 1: Wed, Apr 15 from 6:30-9:30pm
“The Overlooked Object”
We begin together with a simple, shared project that sets the tone for the intensive. We’ll talk about chores, resistance, and why doing creative things for ourselves can feel surprisingly hard. This session is about lowering the stakes, working side by side, and reframing necessity as a place creativity can quietly live.
Session 2: Wed, Apr 22 from 6:30-9:30pm
“Breakfast”
Morning routines shape the rhythm of our days. In this session, we’ll create objects for breakfast and early hours. Mugs, juice cups, toast plates, berry bowls, and butter dishes designed to bring ease and intention to the first moments of the day. We’ll reflect on how we wake up, what we rush through, and how small shifts can change the tone of what follows.
Session 3: Wed, Apr 29 from 6:30-9:30pm
“Dinner”
Dinner carries effort, care, and is often shared, too. We’ll make pieces for cooking and gathering. Spoon rests that make you smile, the perfect sponge holder, salt jars, platters, herb strippers, and hosting/serving pieces that support pauses, imperfection, and shared meals. This session centers nourishment in all its forms and the moments where we’re allowed to slow down.
Session 4: Wed, May 6 from 6:30-9:30pm
“Self Care”
Care is rarely glamorous. In this session, we’ll create bathroom and self care objects like soap dishes, toothbrush cups, trays, and containers for daily rituals. We’ll talk about maintenance, avoidance, and what it means to show up for ourselves in small, consistent ways.
Session 5: Wed, May 13 from 6:30-9:30pm
“Organization”
Objects that receive things. Catchall dishes, wall hooks, desk organizers, and jewelry trays designed to hold what we tend to drop or misplace. This session is about giving everyday items a home, noticing accumulation without judgment, and designing systems that feel supportive rather than strict.
Session 6: Wed, May 20 from 6:30-9:30pm
“Decor”
A session devoted to beauty for its own sake. Planters, vases, frames, clocks, candle holders, suncatchers, and objects that don’t need to justify their existence. We’ll explore delight, indulgence, and the role of joy in daily life.
Session 7: Wed, May 27 from 6:30-9:30pm
“Free Make”
A flexible session to finish remaining wet work or return to an idea that’s been lingering. Revisit earlier themes, create something entirely new, or refine your projects with finishing touches. This is the final opportunity to complete all clay construction before glazing.
Session 8: Wed, June 3 from 6:30pm-9:30pm
“Glazing”
We bring the work to completion through glazing. We’ll reflect on how these objects will live in our homes, the routines they belong to, and what shifted during the process. We close with sharing, intention setting, and a collective acknowledgment of the small rituals we’ve shaped together.
Thurs, June 11 from 7-9pm (Optional)
“Intensives Showcase”
To close out the intensive, we gather again for a shared showcase, jointly with the Drawing Intensive group also taking place in our Williamsburg location this season. Finished works will be displayed during Open Hours the week following the final session, transforming the space into a casual gallery setting. Join us for snacks, conversation, and an opportunity to share what you’ve been working on. Guests are welcome, and our members and Open Hour attendees are invited to view your work and celebrate the process together.
What we’ll explore
Slab Roller
Slabs are an extremely versatile way of building all kinds of ceramic objects. You’ll unlock access to our slab roller and learn advanced techniques that will open new doors!
Personal supplies to use at your own pace
At the first session, you’ll receive A 12 lb. bag of white stoneware to use at your own pace. We have more for purchase if you run out!
The kiln!
We have a ceramic kiln on-site! These kilns get up to 1000-2000 degrees(!), after which your pieces are safe to eat & drink from, as well as go into the microwave and even your oven. You’ll receive prepaid kiln firing credit in your account for pieces you want to make permanent and fire. Our team then loads them carefully into the kiln (twice!).
Storage access is essential for larger, more complex ceramic work. Intensive participants have dedicated shelf space to store pieces between sessions and learn how to manage moisture so work stays viable over time. You’ll learn to control the full lifecycle of your ceramic pieces, using dryness as a tool to build bigger, stronger, more stable forms.
Full lifecycle, full control
Glazes
Glazes are a huge part of the ceramic process and an art in iteself. When fired, it creates the watertight, glossy protective layer that makes ceramics food-safe. You’ll learn how to apply it safely, having a hand in all aspects of your piece from start to finish.
What makes up an Intensive?
Dive deeper and build confidence
Much of Drawing Room programming is about exploration and trying new things.
While Intensives are still open-level and beginner-friendly, we dig deeper and push ourselves to gain confidence, practice, and see improvement.
Intensives are great for when you know you’re really interested in pushing yourself in a particular area.
Beyond making: a creative life
Drawing Room is all about a commitment to living a creative life. We use Intensives as an opportunity to not only actively create, but also discuss the philosophy of creativity—exploring how we can weave the practices into our daily lives with intention and purpose.
Unique program design at a great value
Each Intensive was designed by a collaborating team of practicing artists, specifically for the Drawing Room community and ethos. We not only focus on learning new skills but about connecting with the group over food, drink, and conversation.
You get a great value by committing to a recurring program, but there is truly nothing else quite like them, either!!
Recurring schedule and accountability
Each Intensive spans 8 weeks and is made up of a group of up to 16 people.
Build connections with the same group over the entire Intensive program, see each other grow, and hold yourself accountable to your commitments.
Drawing Room as your campus
Intensive enrollment includes the Creative Flow Membership, which includes Art and Clay Library access. Show your digital membership card to pop by during any Open Hours. Use the space to continue practicing what you learned, meet up your group, or co-work!
Get 15% off everything else with the membership, too.
Workshop supplies
All materials and supplies needed for your workshops are provided on-site. Take home the pieces you create.

Yes, of course!
If you are already a member with a payment method on file, please use the same exact email we have on file for your membership.
Since the Creative Flow Membership is included for all Journey participants, you’ll be prorated for any days not covered by the journey, and these days will be added back at the end of the journey. This means you will not be charged again until you’ve used all the days you’ve paid for last, before signing up for a journey. (Don’t worry, we do the math for you).
Please reach out to our team at info@nycdrawingroom.com with any questions, or for help enrolling

If you aren’t able to make one of the dates, we will be able to share the lesson plan for the day with you and encourage you to complete the assignment so that you will be prepared for the discussions in the subsequent session.
Unlike the Cohort Program, each session builds on the last, so it’s important to try to make each one! There are currently no make-up days available due to the nature of our programming availability.

However, if you find you are unable to join us for the program for whatever reason after booking, you can let us know at least 7 days before the first session to get credits for a future program date. Absolutely!
There’s so much to learn each time you participate in an Intensive, and they’re open level, so you are encouraged to work with the instructors to push yourself.
Plus, each Intensive is a new opportunity to make new friends and share an experience with a tight knit group of people!
If after an Intensive (or two) you find you’re ready to explore other mediums or want to dive deep into another medium, you can explore our other journeys – you’ll get first dibs!
-
We’d recommend you take them one at a time! Each of our journeys are designed to be a comprehensive experience. While participating in multiple (Cohort Program AND an Intensive, for example) is not impossible, you may find yourself at Drawing Room a LOT!! Which, we’d love, but may be intense!
For context, through the Cohort Program you can expect to be at Drawing Room and average of 1-2 times per week, and the Intensive is an average of once per week.
-
All levels are welcome and will find these sessions applicable! Whether you’re:
Super new to clay or have never even touched it
Just starting out, have maybe taken one Claydate or similar workshops elsewhere
More experienced and already have a practice
Intensives are designed to both be a great entry point but also offer a repeatable structure that emphasizes community and growth in skills among fellow creatives who love the medium. See you here soon!
