Location: Drawing Room (In-Person)
Position Type: Part-Time
What You’ll Do:
Kiln Maintenance and Operations: Load, unload, and operate the kiln on a consistent, weekly schedule, ensuring all student and studio pieces are fired safely and efficiently. Make sure the kiln is maintained and in proper working condition.
Glazing: Glaze ceramic pieces made by workshop students, following their design preferences and ensuring a high-quality finish. Mixing, maintaining, and testing new glazes.
Clay Library Maintenance: Keep the clay library stocked, organized, and in good condition to meet the needs of the studio and students.
Tool Upkeep and Inventory: Deep clean tools, upkeep materials, alert if any stock is low or needs to be replaced.
Logging and processing pieces: Own the clay log and its orderly function
Process Improvement: Identify areas of improvement in processes, operations, and workflows, and provide recommendations to enhance efficiency and quality.
Student Communication: Email workshop participants to notify them when their completed pieces are ready for pickup.
Studio Support: Assist with maintaining a clean, organized ceramics studio to ensure a safe and welcoming environment for students and staff.
Packing and shipping finished ceramics: Own the flow of shipping orders that come through, pack items safely, and schedule pickup. Handle any communications related to this process.
What We’re Looking For:
Hands-on experience with ceramics, including glazing, kiln operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and safety.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Ability to manage time effectively and meet firing schedules.
Excellent communication skills, especially via email.
Proactive mindset with a focus on continuous improvement.
A collaborative attitude and passion for fostering creativity in others.
A love for ceramics with a strong personal practice.
Compensation & role details:
$20–$25 per hour, based on experience.
